What we are doing here

After spending nearly four years having an absolute blast with the Wine Two Five podcast, I realized I’d found a community, friends, and a creative outlet where I truly felt at home. The fact that I was usually wearing yoga pants and had justification for opening bottles mid-day may have enhanced that homey feel. Behind the microphone there is a freedom of expression I felt enhanced the information I want to deliver about wine education that my writing was not always able to completely capture.

Behind the wine mic

Often I joke that 25 years in military communications and information technology is the reason I drink. That is somewhat true. Ten years ago I retired and walked away that life and sauntered toward a life “outside the box.” For the first time in my life, at the age of 43, I was free of expectations and attachments to outcomes. I had no idea, nor concern, for where a wine education journey that began in Tuscany would lead.

This podcast is an homage to that journey in discovering all that comes with wine learning … including a healthy pour of silliness I’ve embraced along the way.

The podcast happy space

As a bit of a weirdo someone who actually enjoys public speaking, I saw an unexpected place in the world of wine education where I’m truly happy. This space is furnished with the potential to not only inform the wine learner who wanted to deepen their knowledge, but to inspire independent and in-depth thought and research on the plethora of wine subjects and perspectives. Wine education doesn’t have to be as stuffy as some would say it sounds. In this podcast space there is abundant freedom to teach, learn, connect, and play.

The wine education journey can be a trip

My wine journey began late in life in an unconventional way. I had to learn how and when I learn, what I wanted to learn, and apply the most effective methods. Some people prefer flashcards, some writing and active learning, and others can just read and remember. Some need audio or visual tools. I find a strange amount of joy in sniffing out those learning tools and bringing them to you. Hint: I have never used flashcards for studying. Ever.

Enjoy the ride

So please take what you want from this series, leave what you don’t, and share what you think others would love. It’s free. If you’re a shameless regular podcast consumer like me, you have at about 75 30 podcasts in your feed and can’t consume audio content all day every day (although at 1.5 speed, I certainly try).

You may not be in the mood for a whiskey episode upon opening your app one day. This time-shifted on-demand media space empowers you to ignore it or revisit later. Another day you may eagerly download an episode on yeast for savoring later on a walk, drive, or during a glorious sock drawer organizing marathon on a cold, snowy morning! Eh hem.

It’s about freedom … and did I mention it’s free?

My mission is to find helpful tools, interesting wines, or conversation-worthy topics, and bring them to your ears. Hopefully we can fortify your arsenal of wine study strategies, or strengthen your wine-buying super powers. However you choose to integrate these into your personal sipping experiences is up to you. That my wine friends, is freedom and the beauty of what we are doing here.
